It has additives to keep it lubricating, even if it gets water contamination. You will need 2 quarts of Mercury High Performance Gear Oil to change stator and gear oil. I dont know if new stators come with bearings and seal. The large one is plastic material and the small one on the end of the stator is brass, There are shims available too for these but not needed in most cases. The turbine can spin thanks to the transmission fluid that gets sent from the pump. There are plastic bushings in the stator for the aft end of the pump shaft. One thing though, both pump washers must be replaced not just one, and they must be the same thickness. I use Art Carrs valve although Mike Kutrzs is the same. Replace existing pressure regulator valve/spring in rear pump body with new design valve/spring.

I assume you have a good rebuild manual and most of this is all in there, the rest is just torqueing and replacing valve body etc. Remove stock stator support from rear pump body and install new hardened spline stator support. Tighten a couple of bolts and then recheck the dial indicator reading.
Vaseline holds them in place as with the gasket. the two washers, they are available in various thicknesses to get your lateral movement back in spec.(most trans shops have them). Most of the mods to the pump assembly are related to the stator which feeds the forward assembly with lubrication. The AOD/E/4R pump and stator assembly in stock form is efficient and reliable There are a few upgrades I perform to help it out a little more. First of all you need to check the lateral movement of the gear train before removing the old pump. The pump supports pressure to the system and lube flow to the converter and cooling system. Being you have already rebuilt the trans I think you know pretty much the procedure. There is not a problem installing the pump if you have the right equipt.
